Double or Nothing

If you win any prize worth 3,000 credits or less when playing Monopoly Here and Now, you automatically get the chance to participate in a Double or Nothing Gamble. If you don’t want to take advantage of this opportunity then you don’t have to – simply press the PLAY button to proceed with the next spin. But if you like the idea of pushing your luck a little further you can do so by pressing the GAMBLE button at the foot of the screen.

When you choose to participate in the Double or Nothing Gamble, the screen will show two cards, one face-down and one face-up. There are just two types of cards used in this part of the game – the Ace of spades and the Ace of hearts – and your job is to predict whether or not the next card to be flipped over will be red or black.

This is a perfectly fair Double or Nothing Gamble proposition so your chances of success are always 50/50. However, to put the present decision into some kind of context, you are also shown a History of results for the last fifteen cards. These won’t affect the odds of the next card being red or black (it’s always 50/50) but those of you who like to follow or oppose patterns might find the History bar of use.

If your prediction about the next card is wrong, you lose your bet. However, if your prediction is correct you will double your money. At this stage you have three options:

  • You can press the Take Win button and return to the Monopoly Here and Now main game.

  • You can make another prediction immediately to try to double up again.

  • You can press the Take Half button to take half of your winnings and try to double the other half by making another prediction.

You should note that if you win five consecutive gambles or your win reaches 3,000 credits or more, the Double or Nothing Gamble round automatically comes to an end and you will be returned to the main Monopoly Here and Now screen.

We like the Double or Nothing Gamble feature because it allows us to try and turn even a modest win into something much bigger. Success is never guaranteed, but this feature gives players a 50/50 chance of making the right prediction, and that sounds perfectly fair to us.
